Richard P. Pacheco
| Richard Pacheco, 60, KCK, passed away Friday, July 27, 2007, from injuries suffered in a motor scooter accident, July 14, 2007. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at the Cathedral of St. Peter, KCK. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, KCK. Friends may call 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, at Joseph A Butler and Son Funeral Home, 19th & Minnesota Ave., KCK, where the Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Richard was born May 26, 1947 to Thomas Pacheco and Connie Garcia Pacheco in Kansas City, Ks. and resided in this area all his life. He attended John J. Ingels Grade School and Wyandotte High School. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned two Purple Hearts. In later years, he became a champion of veterans' rights and helped others navigate the V.A. system. Richard was a well-known musician, mainly known for his mastery of the tenor saxophone. He started playing professionally at age 12 and had his own band at 16. After the Vietnam War, he began his most popular band, Richard Pacheco and the Revolution. Richard was proud of the fact that brides would postpone their weddings in order to book his band. In more recent years, he played in various bands, such as, Bobby G. and the Mustangs, Broadway Blues Band and The Hollywood Knights. He also spent many years in various sales positions. His natural charm made him successful in these endeavors. He was also a Warrant Officer for the KCK Police Dept. for five years. Richard was an extremely kindhearted and compassionate person. He especially had a soft spot for abandoned and abused animals. His animal friends will miss him greatly, especially little Mitzi, who can't understand why her "daddy" does not come home. Richard was a man of great faith. He was especially devoted to St. Jude and served as a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Pacheco. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 25 years, Patricia, his mother, Connie Pacheco, KCK, sister, Connie Jones, KCK, three brothers, David P. Pacheco (Phyllis), Olathe, Ks. Tommy Pacheco (Mary) and Ruben Conchola, KCK. Also surviving are special cousins, who were like siblings, Bobby Garcia, Frank Garcia, Tommy Cisneros, Jr., Rosie Mullins, Joe Gallo and Freddie Garcia. He also leaves eight beloved nieces and nephews, 14 great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. (Arr.: Joseph A Butler and Son, 913-371-7000) | |
